HTC VIVE Focus Vision review and specs

Spec-sheet comparison, not a hands-on test. We have not tried the HTC VIVE Focus Vision ourselves: the score and details are based on the official HTC VIVE spec sheet and dated US prices.

Consumer edition: headset and two controllers

8.5Very good · out of 10

A standalone headset with a trick most standalones don't have: a wired DisplayPort mode for PC VR. $1,299 for the consumer edition, eye tracking included. The catch is that the cable kit is extra, and 120 Hz only comes with it.

  • 2448 x 2448 LCD per eye (5K combined), up to 120° field of view, 120 Hz in DisplayPort mode (beta)
  • Built-in eye tracking with automatic IPD adjustment (57-72 mm) and foveated rendering support
  • Hybrid headset: standalone (Snapdragon XR2, 12 GB RAM) or PC VR via Wi-Fi streaming or wired DisplayPort mode; hot-swappable battery

2448 × 2448 pixels per eye

HTC VIVE does not publish a pixels-per-degree figure: resolution per eye stated by the manufacturer, field of view: up to 120° (axis not stated by HTC).

What changes in the cockpit

Out of the box, the PC picture comes over Wi-Fi 6/6E streaming through VIVE Hub, compressed like any standalone. Add the VIVE Wired Streaming Kit ($189 in the US) and it switches to a wired DisplayPort mode over USB-C, which is what a sharp cockpit wants.

The panels are LCD at 2448 × 2448 pixels per eye, with a field of view of up to 120° (HTC doesn't say on which axis). Refresh is 90 Hz, and 120 Hz only in DisplayPort mode, which HTC still calls beta.

What to buy with it

Either the kit on its own, or the Wired Bundle at $1,449 with the kit included. Eye tracking is built in, with automatic IPD adjustment from 57 to 72 mm, and the battery is hot-swappable for standalone use.

HTC doesn't publish the weight, and the warranty is 12 months in the US. Your HOTAS and yoke stay on the PC, as with every headset here.

Great if you…

  • want one headset for standalone use and wired PC flying
  • want eye tracking and automatic IPD
  • like swapping batteries instead of waiting for a charge

Skip it if…

  • you only fly on PC: the Crystal Light has native DisplayPort for $400 less
  • you want a published weight
  • you want 120 Hz without beta software

Frequently asked questions

Is the HTC VIVE Focus Vision good for flight sim?

On paper, the HTC VIVE Focus Vision offers 2448 × 2448 pixels per eye, a field of view of up to 120° (axis not stated by HTC), a DisplayPort link through a kit sold separately. PC flight sims such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, X-Plane 12 and DCS World run in VR through OpenXR or SteamVR: check the VR requirements of your sim before buying. This is a spec-sheet comparison, not a hands-on test.

Can you read the instruments with the HTC VIVE Focus Vision?

HTC VIVE states 2448 × 2448 pixels per eye but no pixels-per-degree figure. Our clarity score then uses the resolution per eye, on a scale anchored to headsets that publish both figures.

How does the HTC VIVE Focus Vision connect to a PC?

Wi-Fi 6/6E streaming (VIVE Hub); wired DisplayPort mode over USB-C with the VIVE Wired Streaming Kit, sold separately.

Does the HTC VIVE Focus Vision need base stations?

No. Inside-out (4 tracking cameras). The cameras on the headset track its position.

Can you fly the HTC VIVE Focus Vision with a HOTAS or a yoke?

Yes: your HOTAS, yoke and rudder pedals connect to the PC, not to the headset, so any PC flight control works alongside it. In VR you cannot see your hands, so controls you can find by feel help.

What score does the HTC VIVE Focus Vision get?

The HTC VIVE Focus Vision scores 8.5/10 ("Very good") in the VR headset category, ranking 9 of 12. The score is calculated from the official specs and the checked US price, with no hands-on test.
