If you only read one line: the Logitech X56 H.O.T.A.S. at $249.99 is our number one, and the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS at $169.99 is the one we'd buy if you don't need a second throttle lever. Here are all 8 HOTAS sets we track, ranked. Spec-sheet comparison, not a hands-on test: scores from official spec sheets and US prices.
Sensors before buttons. Contactless Hall effect sensors don't wear the way potentiometers do, so the center stays clean over time. Most sets here state Hall sensors on the stick; the two T.Flight models don't state a sensor type at all. Our Hall effect guide explains the difference.
One lever or two. Twin levers let you run each engine on its own in a twin; one lever is simpler for single-engine aircraft and most space ships. The X56, the Warthog and the Flightdeck have two that lock together. The T.16000M FCS HOTAS has one.
Plan the rudder. A twist grip handles yaw on a desk, but the Warthog and the Orion2 have no twist axis at all: with those, pedals aren't optional. On the T.16000M FCS HOTAS, Thrustmaster's TFRP plug straight into the throttle. Not sure yet? Read do you need rudder pedals?
Check the platform. Six of the eight are PC only. On Xbox, it's the T.Flight Hotas One; on PS5 and PS4, the T.Flight Hotas 5. The best flight sim controls for Xbox covers the console side.
Each product gets a score out of 10, calculated within its category (HOTAS) from the manufacturer specs and the US price checked on October 29, 2026. Products are then ranked by descending score; on a tie, the cheaper one comes first.
We do not run hands-on tests. An affiliate link never affects a score or a rank.
Cockpits: maximum load, supported controls, seat, weight, modular design, warranty and price.
VR headsets: clarity (PPD or resolution), field of view, display, refresh rate, PC connection, tracking, eye tracking, weight and price.
Missing criteria are removed and weights renormalized; no score without a price or with fewer than three known technical criteria.
