A mouse can point an airplane; it can't hold one. With a stick, holding the nose on the horizon in a turn or a steady descent on final is a matter of pressure, not of clicks. Hall effect sensors on pitch and roll matter here: no wiper rubbing a track, so the center doesn't drift the way worn potentiometers do.
The base also carries a throttle wheel and the grip twists for rudder, so one stick covers the four basics: pitch, roll, yaw and power. The twist locks, too, for the day you add pedals.
It converts between right- and left-handed use, which matters more than it sounds. Lefties get a real stick, and a second unit could sit on the other side of the keyboard as a two-stick setup later. 1.32 kg on the spec sheet, desk-friendly.
The weak spot is the throttle. A small wheel on the base is fine for cruise in a Cessna, not for an evening of approaches. That's why the T.16000M FCS HOTAS exists: this same stick plus the TWCS throttle on 3.2 in (80 mm) rails, for $90 more.
